# Why Vayl

Most agent memory *accumulates* — it saves every fact and later hands your agent a value that used to be true. Vayl **reconciles** instead: a new value supersedes the old, a removal actually retracts, and history stays queryable and auditable.

These pages make the case — the guarantee, why the common approach fails, and who needs it most.

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><h4><i class="fa-circle-check" style="color:$primary;">:circle-check:</i> Memory that can't be wrong</h4></td><td>The guarantee: one live value per fact, removal is real, the past stays provable.</td><td><a href="/pages/M6wkujhPwvua64MrnexQ">/pages/M6wkujhPwvua64MrnexQ</a></td></tr><tr><td><h4><i class="fa-clock-rotate-left" style="color:$primary;">:clock-rotate-left:</i> Why memory goes stale</h4></td><td>The root cause — append vs. reconcile — and how to fix it today.</td><td><a href="/pages/JBgX4JjZzX9NfXaWCROd">/pages/JBgX4JjZzX9NfXaWCROd</a></td></tr><tr><td><h4><i class="fa-shield-halved" style="color:$primary;">:shield-halved:</i> For high-stakes agents</h4></td><td>Correct, gated, and auditable — for clinical, financial, and legal agents.</td><td><a href="/pages/itoO8D9NSoQIA88QTCnq">/pages/itoO8D9NSoQIA88QTCnq</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://vayl.gitbook.io/vayl-docs/documentation/why-vayl.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
